Outer ring road route: where it actually goes

The MSRDC alignment is split into an Eastern Ring Road and a Western Ring Road, meeting to form the full loop around the district.
The eastern corridor runs from Urse on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway to Solu on the Alandi–Markal Road, then continues south through the district's eastern flank — crossing the Pune–Nashik highway, Pune–Ahmednagar (Nagar) Road near the Wagholi–Kesnand belt, and the Pune–Solapur highway — down toward Sorta and the Saswad side. This is the corridor that unlocks the eastern logistics belt: Wagholi, Kesnand, Loni Kalbhor and the Ranjangaon MIDC feeder routes.
The western corridor runs from Urse down to Varve Budruk on the Pune–Satara Road, threading the harder terrain — the Mulshi and Bhor hills. Packages and contractors: who is building it

The civil work is divided into 12 packages — 7 on the Eastern Ring Road and 5 on the Western — awarded through competitive bidding that drew India's biggest road builders. The contractors mobilised across packages include Megha Engineering (MEIL), Navayuga Engineering, GR Infraprojects, PNC Infratech, Roadway Solutions India Infra (RSIIL) and Afcons on eastern packages, with each package running on an aggressive construction schedule of roughly 900 days from appointed date.
Ground activity is visible today. On the eastern side, RSIIL's package connecting Nagar Road to the Solapur highway (about 24.5 km) mobilised from a base at Wadebolai village near Kesnand with over a hundred excavators and earthmoving machines deployed for land levelling and formation work. Similar mobilisation is underway package by package as encumbrance-free land is handed over.
Land acquisition and compensation
Land acquisition — the stage that stalls most Indian expressways — is substantially complete on the outer ring: around 98% of the roughly 1,740 hectares required has been acquired across the 83 villages, most of it private land. Compensation was set at up to five times the Ready Reckoner Rate (or the highest recent transaction benchmark, whichever is higher), which is the single biggest reason acquisition moved faster here than on comparable projects. Over ₹11,000 crore was earmarked for land alone, financed in part through HUDCO borrowing approved by the state cabinet.
On the inner ring road, the government granted a Social Impact Assessment exemption covering the full alignment (~721 hectares), and joint measurement and valuation have been completed village by village on the priority stretch, with acquisition proposals for the Haveli taluka villages submitted to the District Collector.
Timeline: when will the Pune Ring Road be completed
Dates on this project have moved several times, so treat any single deadline with caution — but the current working structure is this: construction on the outer ring road formally began in late 2024, with contractors mobilising through 2025. Each package carries a construction period of roughly 30 months / 900 days, which points to the outer ring road targeting completion around late 2027 to 2028, package by package rather than all at once — expect eastern flatland packages to finish before the tunnel-heavy western ones. The full dual-ring network, including the PMRDA inner ring road, is anticipated to be operational around 2030.
The inner ring road is being delivered in stages, with the Solu Interchange–Nirgudi–Vadgaon Shinde priority stretch (connecting the Mumbai–Pune Expressway side to Pune–Ahmednagar Road) sequenced first.

Traffic: the outer ring's core purpose is to remove long-distance and heavy commercial traffic from city roads. Real estate and industry: every interchange is a future growth node. Construction economy: a programme of this scale runs on thousands of machines and hundreds of subcontractors. Formation work needs excavators, rollers and compactors; the 8 tunnels, dozens of bridges and every interchange run on cut-and-bent reinforcement steel processed by bar bending and bar cutting machines; and the service roads, toll plazas and structures need concrete finishing equipment.
