Where a 1.8 tonne machine earns its place
Most excavation on a congested site is not limited by digging power — it is limited by access. Once a plot is built up, or the work is inside an existing structure, a full-size excavator cannot reach the dig at all, and the trench gets done by hand.

Where it is used
Utility and service pipe trenching, shallow foundation and footing excavation, interior and confined-space demolition, landscaping and agricultural layouts, drainage work, and site clearance on plots too tight for a standard excavator.
Once trenches are excavated and services laid, backfill compaction is done with a tamping rammer, which reaches into the trench where a roller cannot.
