The Jamshedji concrete texture brush is a manual broom-finish tool with an 880 mm stainless steel bristle head and two 2 metre handles giving 4 metres of reach. Dragged across a floated slab before it fully sets, it pulls a fine, uniform ridge pattern into the surface — the grip texture that stops driveways, ramps, footpaths and external slabs becoming slippery when wet. Weight 4 kg.

Key specifications at a glance

  • Brush width: 880 mm
  • Bristle material: stainless steel
  • Handles: 2 × 2 m (4 m total reach)
  • Weight: 4 kg
  • Operation: manual
  • Finish: broom / texture

Why a smooth finish is the wrong finish outdoors

A power-trowelled floor is smooth and hard — exactly right for a warehouse or a factory floor kept dry and under cover. Put that same smooth finish outdoors and it becomes a hazard: the moment it rains, a trowelled slab is slippery underfoot and under tyre.

The texture brush solves that. Dragged once across the surface after floating, while the concrete is still plastic, it pulls a shallow, even ridge pattern into the top. Those ridges give feet and tyres something to grip on a wet surface — which is why driveways, ramps, footpaths, pool surrounds and external walkways specify a broom or textured finish rather than a smooth one.

The 880 mm width and 4 m reach let the texture be applied in straight, continuous strokes across the slab, so the pattern is uniform and the finish looks deliberate rather than patchy.

Key features

  • 880 mm stainless steel bristle head for a wide, even texture stroke
  • Stainless bristles resist corrosion from wet cement — long service life
  • Two 2 m handles combine for 4 m of reach across a slab from the edge
  • Pulls a uniform anti-slip ridge pattern for outdoor and wet-area safety
  • 4 kg — light and easy to control for a consistent finish
  • Handles break down for transport and storage

Where it fits in the slab workflow

The texture brush is a finishing step. The slab is levelled with a screed board vibrator, floated with a bull float, and then finished one of two ways depending on where it is: a power trowel for a smooth indoor floor, or this texture brush for an anti-slip outdoor surface. On some jobs both are used — trowel first for density, then a light broom pass for grip.

Applications

Driveways and vehicle ramps, footpaths and walkways, pool surrounds and wet areas, external residential and commercial slabs, road surfaces, loading bays, and any outdoor concrete where a slip-resistant finish is required.

Frequently asked questions

What is a concrete texture brush for?

Pulling a fine, uniform ridge pattern into a fresh slab to make it slip-resistant. It is what gives driveways, ramps and footpaths their grip — a broom or textured finish rather than a smooth one.

When is it used during the pour?

After floating, while the concrete is still plastic. One straight pass across the surface leaves the texture; the timing matters, as too early closes up and too late will not take the pattern.

Why texture instead of a smooth trowel finish?

A smooth trowelled surface is right indoors but dangerously slippery outdoors when wet. Any external slab — driveway, ramp, walkway, pool surround — needs the grip a textured finish provides.

Why stainless steel bristles?

Stainless resists corrosion from the wet cement it works in, so the brush lasts far longer than a mild-steel or plastic head that rusts or wears after a few slabs.

How wide a path does it cover?

880 mm per pass, with 4 m of combined handle reach so the stroke can run straight across a slab from the edge.

Can I use it after a power trowel?

Yes. A common approach is to trowel for surface density and then take a light broom pass for grip — you get a hard, dense slab that is still slip-resistant.
