Ride On Trowel Disc – 980mm, 8 Claw, ROT Float Disc

This is the 980 mm float disc for ride-on trowels (ROT) — 3 mm high-strength steel with an 8-claw mounting system. The heavier claw count is what distinguishes it from the walk-behind disc: a ride-on machine carries an operator's weight and runs two rotors, so the disc needs eight fixing points rather than four.

This is the 8-claw disc. Walk-behind power trowels take the 4-claw disc — count the claws on your existing disc before ordering. A ride-on machine uses one disc per rotor, so order in pairs if you are replacing both.

What it does and when to replace it

Floating is the first pass over green concrete: flattening and consolidating the surface before it is hard enough to finish. Trowel blades alone are too narrow for this and would cut into soft concrete, so the float disc presents one continuous 980 mm flat plate that spreads the machine's weight across the surface instead of concentrating it on blade edges.

On a ride-on that load is substantially higher than on a walk-behind, since the machine carries an operator as well as its own mass. That is why the disc uses an 8-claw mount — more fixing points means a firmer grip, less vibration transmitted through the rotor, and a disc that stays flat under load. Replace it when it wears noticeably thinner, when the face is scored or pitted enough to mark the slab, or when it has warped out of flat; on large industrial floors a bowed disc shows up immediately as a repeating pattern.
