The tamping rammer accelerator cable is the 25-inch throttle cable that connects the rammer's handle throttle lever to the engine carburettor, letting the operator control engine speed from the handle. It is a wear item — the inner wire frays and the outer sheath cracks with constant vibration, so a sticking or snapped throttle cable is a common reason a rammer needs a quick spare.

What it does and when to replace it

The accelerator cable carries the operator's throttle input from the handle lever down to the engine. The inner mild-steel wire slides inside a PVC outer sheath; pulling the lever pulls the wire, which opens the throttle.

Constant vibration is hard on it. Over time the inner wire frays or stiffens and the sheath cracks, and the first signs are a throttle that sticks, feels notchy, or does not return cleanly to idle. Replace the cable when it drags or before it snaps — a broken throttle cable stops the machine mid-job. It is a low-cost part worth keeping on the shelf.
