The Jamshedji diesel tamping rammer is a heavy-duty jumping jack soil compactor powered by a 5.5 HP Koop diesel engine, delivering 5 tonnes of impact force at 700 blows per minute and compacting to a depth of 300 mm. Also called a diesel dhumas machine, it is the rammer for sustained earthwork on road projects, large foundations and infrastructure sites where a machine runs all day and diesel is already on site. Why diesel on large earthworks

On a road or infrastructure project the rammer is not lifted in and out of a trench a dozen times a day — it works a formation layer or a long backfill run continuously. Under that duty cycle, two things decide the machine: how hard it hits, and what it costs to run per hour.

Diesel wins on both. Five tonnes of impact drives compaction through heavier fill in fewer passes, and diesel is usually already on site in bulk for the excavators and rollers, so refuelling is one less logistics problem. Diesel engines also tolerate long continuous running better than a small petrol engine does.

Diesel or petrol — how to choose

Jamshedji supplies rammers in both. This diesel machine gives 5 tonnes of impact at 130 kg. The Honda petrol tamping rammer gives 3–3.5 tonnes at 85 kg.

Take diesel for sustained heavy compaction: road formation, large foundations, bulk backfill, infrastructure earthworks. Take petrol where the machine is lifted in and out of trenches repeatedly, carried between locations or worked on upper levels — 45 kg less makes a real difference over a shift. For enclosed areas where exhaust is unacceptable, use the electric tamping rammer.

Where it is used

Road and highway formation layers, bulk trench backfill on service corridors, large column and raft foundations, embankment and shoulder work, and infrastructure earthworks generally. Where compaction is needed over open area rather than in confined strips, a diesel plate compactor or a single drum vibratory roller covers ground faster.
