The Jamshedji scrap bar straightening machine pulls bent, twisted and deformed TMT rebar from 6 mm to 22 mm back to straight, reusable bar, feeding at 25 metres per minute through 14 hardened alloy rollers. It is used on demolition sites, development yards and scrap reprocessing centres to recover reinforcement steel that would otherwise be sold as scrap. Driven by a 5.5 HP (4 kW) three-phase motor through a double chain and gear drive. Weight 550 kg.

Key specifications at a glance

  • Capacity: 6–22 mm TMT bar
  • Rollers: 14 hardened Cr12 alloy steel
  • Feeding speed: 25 m/min
  • Motor: 5.5 HP (4 kW) three-phase, copper-wound
  • Transmission: heavy-duty double chain and gear drive
  • Weight: 550 kg

The economics of straightening scrap

Bent rebar left over from demolition, dismantled shuttering support or offcuts is normally sold by weight as scrap — steel that was bought at bar rate leaves the site at scrap rate. The gap between those two prices is the whole case for this machine.

Straightened bar goes back into use for non-critical reinforcement, binding, site fabrication and temporary works, at no material cost beyond the electricity to run the machine. On a demolition-heavy project or a yard handling recovered steel in volume, the difference between selling at scrap rate and reusing at bar rate accumulates quickly.

Fourteen rollers arranged in vertical and horizontal rows work the bar from every direction, which is what takes the twist out as well as the bend — a bar that is straight in one plane but still corkscrewed is not usable.

Key features

  • 14-roller configuration in vertical and horizontal rows for 360° alignment
  • Hardened Cr12 alloy rollers resist wear from TMT rib patterns
  • Dual feeding channels separate thin (6–12 mm) and thick (14–22 mm) bar to prevent jamming
  • 25 m/min feed rate for continuous yard processing
  • Double chain and gear drive for sustained torque under load
  • Lifting hook and compact footprint — shifts between sites on a mini crane
  • 5.5 HP copper-wound three-phase motor

Where it fits in the fabrication yard

The straightener recovers material; the rest of the line processes it. Recovered straight bar can be cut on a GQ45 bar cutting machine and bent on a GW42 bar bending machine.

For new material rather than recovered, the bar decoiling and straightening machine does the equivalent job from coil, and the CNC automatic stirrup bending machine turns coil straight into finished stirrups.

Frequently asked questions

What does a scrap bar straightening machine do?

It pulls bent, twisted and deformed rebar through a series of rollers to return it to straight, reusable bar — recovering steel that would otherwise be sold at scrap rate.

What bar sizes can it straighten?

6 mm to 22 mm TMT bar, fed through separate channels for thin (6–12 mm) and thick (14–22 mm) material so the machine does not jam.

Is straightened bar suitable for structural use?

Recovered bar is generally used for non-critical reinforcement, binding, site fabrication and temporary works. Whether it can be used structurally depends on the condition of the steel and what your project specification and engineer permit — that decision sits with the structural consultant, not the machine.

Why 14 rollers?

They are arranged in vertical and horizontal rows so the bar is worked from every direction. That removes twist as well as bend — a bar straightened in only one plane can still be corkscrewed and unusable.

How fast does it process bar?

25 metres per minute.

Can it be moved between sites?

Yes. At 550 kg with a lifting hook and compact footprint, it shifts on a mini crane or small truck — useful on demolition work where the material is where the machine needs to be.
