The Jamshedji concrete floor grinding and polishing machine is a 550 mm planetary grinder with four counter-rotating discs carrying 12 diamond pads, driven by a 10 HP three-phase motor with variable speed from 0 to 1500 rpm. It flattens and polishes industrial floors, prepares slabs for epoxy and coatings, removes old coatings, and finishes terrazzo. Works wet or dry, with a 30 litre water tank and a 50 mm dust extraction port. Weight 260 kg, with removable weight blocks to vary grinding pressure.

Key specifications at a glance

  • Working width: 550 mm
  • Grinding head: 4-disc planetary, 12 diamond pads
  • Motor: 10 HP three-phase
  • Speed: 0–1500 rpm, VFD controlled
  • Water tank: 30 litres
  • Weight: 260 kg, adjustable with weight blocks

Why the planetary head matters

A single rotating disc grinds in one direction, and on a large floor that leaves visible directional swirl patterns and a surface that is smooth in places but not flat overall.

A planetary head solves it mechanically: four discs counter-rotate against the direction of the main head, so every point on the slab is cut from multiple directions as the machine passes. That cancels the directional pattern and produces a genuinely flat plane rather than a polished undulation — which is what matters if the floor is going to take a coating or be measured for flatness.

Grinding pressure is as important as speed. Removable weight blocks let the operator load the machine up for aggressive stock removal on hard old concrete, or lighten it for fine polishing passes where too much pressure burns the pads.

Key features

  • 4 counter-rotating discs carrying 12 diamond pads — no directional grind pattern
  • VFD variable speed 0–1500 rpm for concrete hardness, coating removal or high-gloss polishing
  • 30 litre integrated tank for wet grinding and polishing
  • 50 mm industrial dust extraction port for dry work, keeping silica dust down
  • Removable weight blocks to match grinding pressure to concrete age and grade
  • 550 mm working width covers ground without becoming unwieldy indoors
  • 10 HP three-phase motor for sustained commercial duty

Grinder or scarifier — they are not the same job

These two machines are often confused. A grinder cuts with diamond pads and produces a smooth, flat, polishable surface — it is a finishing and preparation machine. A concrete scarifier strikes the surface with rotating cutters and leaves a deliberately rough, textured profile.

Use the grinder when you want the surface smooth: polished concrete, epoxy and coating preparation, terrazzo, levelling high spots, light coating removal. Use the scarifier when you want material removed fast or a key left behind: thick coatings, laitance, road markings, anti-skid texture, or a deep mechanical key before a heavy screed or overlay.

On coating jobs many contractors use both — the scarifier to take the old material off, the grinder to bring the exposed slab back to flat.

Where it fits in the flooring workflow

Grinding happens after the slab has cured. Before that, the floor is levelled with a ride on laser screed machine and finished with a ride on trowel or dual speed power trowel. Joints are cut with an electric concrete cutter.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a floor grinder and a scarifier?

A grinder cuts with diamond pads and leaves a smooth, flat, polishable surface. A scarifier strikes the surface with cutters and leaves a rough textured profile. Grinder for polishing and coating preparation; scarifier for fast material removal and mechanical key.

Why is a planetary head better than a single disc?

Four discs counter-rotate against the main head, so the slab is cut from multiple directions on every pass. That removes the directional swirl a single disc leaves and produces a flat plane rather than a polished undulation.

Can it be used for epoxy and coating preparation?

Yes — that is one of its main applications. Grinding opens the concrete surface so coatings bond properly, and the variable speed lets you match the pass to the coating being applied or removed.

Does it work wet or dry?

Both. The 30 litre tank feeds water for wet grinding and polishing; the 50 mm extraction port connects to an industrial vacuum for dry work, which keeps concrete dust out of the air.

Why would I add weight blocks?

Grinding pressure controls how aggressively the pads cut. More weight for hard, old concrete and heavy stock removal; less for fine polishing passes, where excess pressure burns the diamond pads.

What power supply does it need?

Three phase, driving a 10 HP motor.
