The Jamshedji dual speed power trowel is a three-phase electric concrete floating and finishing machine with a 1000 mm working width, a 3 kW (4 HP) motor and two working speeds — 1440 rpm and 2800 rpm. Built in-house at MIDC Bhosari, Pune, on a heavy-duty gearbox and a 150 kg frame, it is the machine for contractors who want to run floating and finishing as two distinct operations rather than compromising on a single speed. Being electric, it produces no exhaust and can be used indoors.

What two speeds actually give you

Concrete finishing is two jobs, not one. Floating happens early, on soft concrete, and wants a slower blade — too fast and the pan tears the surface. Finishing happens later, on a hardening slab, and wants speed to burnish and close the surface properly.

A single-speed machine has to sit somewhere between the two. The dual speed runs 1440 rpm for floating and 2800 rpm for the finishing passes, so the operator gets the right blade speed at each stage. On large industrial floors and specification work where surface regularity is measured and signed off, that control is what gets the finish accepted.

The heavy-duty gearbox is what makes the two-speed drive last. Changing speeds under load is hard on a gearbox, which is why this one is built to a heavier specification at the Bhosari works.

Which power trowel for your site

This machine needs a three-phase supply. If your site has only ordinary single-phase mains, use the single phase power trowel, which runs at a fixed 80 rpm on the same 3 kW motor. Where there is no power at all — open ground, roadworks, remote sites — use the petrol power trowel or the heavy duty petrol power trowel. For edges, corners and column bases a 1000 mm pan cannot reach, add the 600 mm power trowel edger. Above roughly 1,000 sqm per pour, the twin-rotor ride on trowel (ROT) covers ground faster.
