The Single Drum Vibratory Roller is a walk-behind diesel compactor with one vibrating drum, built for patch work, trench backfill, footpaths and confined compaction where a larger tandem roller cannot manoeuvre. A single 425 × 600 mm drum driven by a 5.5 HP Changfa diesel engine delivers 16 kN of exciting force at 70 Hz, compacting soil in lifts up to 250 mm and asphalt up to 200 mm.

Why a single drum roller

A single drum roller does something a twin-drum tandem cannot: it turns tightly and works into corners and edges. With one drum it pivots on the spot, so it compacts patch repairs, trench backfill, around manholes and utility cuts, footpaths and small municipal jobs where a longer tandem machine simply cannot fit or steer. Forward and reverse travel let the operator work back and forth in a confined space without turning the machine around.

The vibration is what makes it effective — the 16 kN drum at 70 Hz drives compaction energy down into the layer rather than just rolling over it, so soil and granular fill are consolidated in lifts up to 250 mm and thin asphalt to 200 mm. On soil, granular sub-base and asphalt patches alike, it leaves a compacted, load-bearing surface.

Which roller for the job

• This single drum walk-behind — patch work, trenches, footpaths and tight/confined areas where the machine must turn and work into edges.
• Double drum walk-behind tandem (10 HP, 3 T) — continuous flat runs where both drums vibrate and one pass compacts twice, leaving a flatter surface for roads and larger asphalt areas.
• Ride-on mini vibratory roller (11 HP, 5 T twin drum) — larger areas and longer runs where an operator rides the machine.

For smaller or more localised compaction, a plate compactor or tamping rammer works the surface or drives energy down a narrow column in trench backfill.
