Unit price / perThe Jamshedji diesel plate compactor is a walk-behind vibratory compactor with a 5.5 HP Changfa diesel engine, delivering 3–3.5 tonnes of impact force at 5,500 rpm through a 470 × 600 mm base plate. It compacts soil, sand, gravel and asphalt across open ground where a wide plate covers area fast — sub-base under paving, road formation layers, footpaths, driveways and industrial yards. Walking speed 20–30 m/min. Weight 150 kg.
Key specifications at a glance

When a plate compactor is the right machine
Compaction equipment splits by how the energy is applied to the ground. A rammer drives a small footprint downward at low frequency — narrow, deep, right for cohesive soils and confined trenches. A plate compactor does the opposite: it holds a wide plate against the ground at high frequency, so the energy spreads across the surface and moves granular material into a dense, level bed.
That is exactly what sub-base needs. Under a road, a footpath, a driveway or an industrial floor, the compacted sub-base is what stops the finished surface from settling later. A rammer would give you deep compaction in small footprints, but you would be there for a week; a plate compactor at 20–30 metres per minute covers a working strip in one pass.
The 5,500 rpm vibration frequency matters as much as the impact force. High frequency across a wide plate is what liquefies granular material momentarily and lets it settle into position, which is why sub-base and asphalt jobs specify plate compaction rather than ramming.
Key features
- 5.5 HP Changfa diesel engine sized for continuous site duty
- 3–3.5 tonne impact force at 5,500 rpm covers granular and mixed material
- 470 × 600 mm plate at 14 mm thickness — wide enough to be productive, narrow enough to steer
- 20–30 m/min walking speed for real productivity on open ground
- Diesel fuel is already stocked on most infrastructure sites for the plant fleet
- 150 kg — heavy enough for effective compaction, light enough for two men to lift onto a pickup
- Made in Pune with after-sales support and spares
Where it fits in the compaction ladder
Different jobs need different machines, and the compaction ladder is straightforward.
- Tamping rammer — trench backfill, cohesive soils, confined strips. See the Honda petrol rammer (3–3.5 T, 85 kg), the diesel rammer (5 T, 130 kg) or the electric HCD110 for indoor work.
- This plate compactor — open ground, granular sub-base, footpaths, small driveways.
- Walk-behind roller — small roads, service trench reinstatement, larger footpath and yard surfacing. See the double drum walk behind roller.
- Ride-on roller — car parks, roads, large formation layers. See the ride on mini vibratory roller.
Where it is used
Sub-base compaction under paving and industrial floors, road formation layers, footpath and pavement work, driveways and parking bays, service trench reinstatement in granular fill, asphalt patching, and shoulder work alongside carriageways.

Frequently asked questions
Should I buy a plate compactor or a tamping rammer?
A plate compactor works a wide plate at high frequency, spreading energy across the surface — right for granular sub-base and open-ground work. A rammer drives energy downward in a narrow footprint — right for cohesive soils and confined trench backfill. Many contractors carry both.
Can it compact asphalt?
Yes, for patching, small car parks, driveways and footpath work. Larger asphalt jobs move up the compaction ladder to a walk-behind or ride-on roller.
Why is the vibration frequency so high?
5,500 rpm is what makes granular material behave momentarily like a fluid, so grains settle into a dense, level bed. Impact force alone is not enough — frequency across a wide plate is what gives plate compaction its speed on sub-base work.
How wide is the compaction path?
470 × 600 mm base plate — wide enough to make real progress on a strip of ground, narrow enough to steer around fixed points and into corners.
How deep does it compact?
A plate compactor compacts a surface layer effectively; depth increases with pass count. Deep compaction of cohesive fill is a rammer's job, not a plate compactor's.
Why diesel rather than petrol?
Diesel runs longer per litre and is usually already stocked on infrastructure sites for the plant fleet, which makes refuelling simpler on a large earthworks or roads job.
